Self-Care in Support of Your Mental Health: What Are Some Ways to Engage in Self-Care?
Self-care activities vary greatly from person to person. For example, something you find enjoyable and relaxing may not satisfy the same need for your best friend.
There is no wrong way to engage in self-care, unless you try to force yourself to do it in a way that doesn't resonate with you. Make sure you choose activities that bring you peace, relaxation, and rest. Consider these common self-care activities:
1. Taking long, hot baths or showers
2. Squeezing in an afternoon nap
3. Enjoying your favorite meal or a treat from your favorite bakery, coffee shop, etc.
4. Spend time enjoying a creative art form you love.
5. Watching a movie or TV show you’ve been wanting to see
6. Turn your phone alerts on silent at a specific time in the evenings.
7. Mute your work emails and alerts when you are no longer at work.
8. Treat yourself to a massage, salon appointment, manicure, or similar
9. Spend some time in solitude outdoors.
10. Read a book or magazine.
11. Put together a model or jigsaw puzzle.
12. Cook or bake yourself a new, tasty treat.
13. Practice yoga.
14. Go on a walk or jog.
